HIGH SPEED RAIL

HS2 is a state-of-the-art, high-speed line critical for the UK’s low carbon transport future. It will provide much-needed rail capacity across the country, and is integral to rail projects in the North and Midlands – helping rebalance the UK economy.

Their problem was around the fact that they have thousands of jobs coming online, but they wanted to ensure that they had true representation across the jobs from themselves directly and jobs available via their supply chain.

The DNI team along with talent skills and productivity, needed help to think through some solutions and strategies.

Our approach

Our solution was to host a number of focus groups and training, the first focus group is where we selected representation from the Black African and Caribbean Community, to review their collateral which includes their website, prospectus, job adverts. Our solution was to host and facilitate a focus group with HS2, to review their job brokerage
model share some of the potential barriers and then methodically look at solutions and then develop a model of good practice. The impact of this is that together with HS2 we have co produced a model that has been created with both the local community and senior leadership at HS2, that will be rolled out from 2021 and beyond.

For the past three months, Legacy Consultants have been on an exciting journey collaborating with HS2 Ltd, a longstanding client. Our focus was to energise and engage communities between Birmingham and London, promoting the UK's upcoming high-speed rail project.

Building on our history with HS2, which began when we developed their job brokerage programme to connect diverse communities with employment opportunities, this new phase of our partnership has been equally dynamic. Legacy Consultants transitioned from supporting recruitment and stakeholder engagement to public-facing promotion, utilising our seasoned street team and talented artists.

Our approach

Community & Stakeholder Engagement: Legacy Consultants have a deep understanding of community dynamics and have successfully built trust and rapport with local stakeholders since the early stages of HS2's job brokerage programme. This expertise set a strong foundation for our current promotional campaign.

Street Team Activation: We mobilised our energetic street team, known for their engaging presence and vibrant performances, to spread the word about the new high-speed rail project. Their approach combined word-of-mouth communication with live performances, creating a memorable experience for the public.
Artistic Integration: Collaborating with talented local artists, we brought an element of creativity and visual storytelling to the promotion. This helped capture the public’s interest and showcased the excitement surrounding the new rail line in an authentic way.

Real-Time Updates: Engaging communities directly, our team provided updates on the project’s progress, answering questions, and creating buzz about the anticipated completion of the high-speed rail service. This face-to-face interaction proved invaluable in building excitement and trust among potential customers and stakeholders.

Impact

Our campaign has been a resounding success, boosting awareness and anticipation for HS2 while strengthening Legacy Consultants’ reputation as experts in community and stakeholder engagement. The combination of energetic street team activations and strategic stakeholder communication has proven to be a powerful formula, resonating with diverse audiences along the route.
